Awesome Congo Bars


My husband absolutely loved these. He said they tasted just like a chocolate chip cookie. I have another recipe that I make but he likes these much better. If you like a bar that taste more  like a cake, then the other recipe is for you.

Awesome Congo Bars

  • 2-1/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups (12-ounce pkg.) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Grease 15 x 10-inch jelly-roll pan.
  3. Combine flour, baking soda and salt in a small bowl.
  4. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla, until smooth.
  5. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  6. Gradually beat in flour mixture.
  7. Stir in chocolate chips.
  8. Spread into prepared pan.
  9. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Cool in pan on wire rack.
  11. Cut into bars.
