The cause of his death was Colon Cancer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><i>Death Notes<\/i>: Aug 22, 1985: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\">George J Saba, 66, 189 W Main St., died at 10:12 p.m. Tuesday at Alliance Health Care Center, following an extended illness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\">Mr. Saba was the owner of Saba Saveway, a market on Main Street, from 1947 to 1962. From 1962 until he retired in 1972, he was produce coordinator for Perskey&#8217;s and Clarkins food stores.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\">He was born Oct. 7, 1918, in Dubois, Pa., to Isber and Ramza Kazhal Saba, and had lived in Alliance since 1946.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\">Mr. Saba was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a first sergeant with the 82nd Airborne Division. He received the Good Conduct Medal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\">A member of Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, he was a member of Joseph P. Conlon Fourth Degree Assembly, and served as district marshal of Hennepin Province of the Eastern Ohio Distinct K. of C.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\">Mr. Saba was a member and lay minister of Regina Coeli Catholic Church. He started the martial arts program at the YMCA in 1965, and served as its director until his death. Earlier this year, he received the Y&#8217;s Service to Youth award.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\">Mr. Saba was also a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 50, American Legion Post 168, B.P.O. Elks Lodge 467, United Commercial Travelers, Fraternal Order of Police Associates, Police Reserve of Alliance, and the U.S. Branch of the Hakko-Ryu JuJitsu Federation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\">His wife, Freda, died Jan 22, 1977.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\">Mr. Saba is survived by a son, Dr. George Saba of San Francisco, and two brothers, William and Henry, both of Akron. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara and Marie, and three brothers, Mitchell, Fred and Edward.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\">Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Regina Coeli Church, with the Rev. Paul Tobin officiating.
