Research Notes: Affiffee’s mother died at birth; father when she was 3; grandmother when she was 5; later shifted between aunts and uncles more or less as maid. Kasaab was name of Affiffee’s uncle who resided in Egypt (Cairo or Alexandria) that she “adopted” as a surname. [As told to me by Elizabeth Saba Shatara and Mary K Saba, 1995-2000: jss]

Affiffee’s headstone says 1884-; created while living as it’s a family stone created when Adale died (assumed). Her DOB varies according to some children’s BC’s: Phillipe (David Philip), Oct 1901- 23; Essa (Austin), Mar 1903-22; Nesly, Mar 1907-25; Joseph, Sep 1914- 34. He was a retired clothing merchant and a member of the Syrian Orthodox Church. He was born in Syria, a son of Michael and Talgie (Mitry) Saba. Mr. Saba had resided in this city for many years and was widely esteemed in the community.

For about 50 years he operated a store here, most of which time it was located on Milk Street, but had been in retirement of about 20 years.

He leaves three sons, Edward, Alfred and Phosy Saba, all of this city; six grandchildren; and a brother, Mohanna Saba of Indiana, PA.

He was at all times solicitous of the well-being of his fellow residents and over the years exercised many unpublicized philanthropic activities.

He was a devoted husband and father and his passing will be genuinely mourned by his many friends in the community.
